THE ROOTS
The first five books of the Old Testament consist of the Five Books of Moses. The Torah of YHVH's law includes the Ten Commandments, or Decalogue, given to Moses by YHVH at Mount Sinai. They include the Laws of God, which are ethical principles of living that pertain to a holy life.
The Torah is also called the Pentateuch and contains the religious, judicial, dietary and civil laws of Hebrew society. Apart from the sacrificial laws, they remain alongside YHVH's instructions for His seasonal feasts.
The Torah is often misconstrued by Christians as the Law; however, they are the teachings and statutes of YHVH,given to Israel. They contain the principles of how a person should live and benefit in a covenant relationship with God. All Christians are grafted into the Olive tree of Israel and are thus part of the commonwealth of Israel and beneficiaries of the covenant blessings and promises.
We read this in Romans 11:16-17
16 If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.
Torah is part of the book Christianity calls the Old Testament. Torah contains both the oral and written laws. The Torah is also known as the Chumash, the Pentateuch, or the Five Books of Moses.
The five books of the Torah are read in sections or Parshas, throughout the year. It is also read in conjunction with the Haftarah ( the remaining books in the Tanakh, an acronym (TNK) for the Prophets (Nevi'im) and the Kethuvim, the Psalms and Writings, which include the books of the minor prophets).
Blessings everyone.
I pray you will enjoy reading through the Torah Portions. I have been blessed to be able to spend time in study and producing them for you.
Due to personal events and other ministry business, I will no longer, well at least for the foreseeable future, be able to submit future studies. In due course, I may find time to sit down once again and apply pen to paper. the Lord is pruning back in this season. In the meantime please visit my posts and music page. I hope you will continue to delve into the portions.
Shalom
